Brachioplasty refers to the operation which provides an arm lift to remove redundant skin from the inner aspect of the arms. It is an excellent operation to improve the contour of the arms with the trade-off being a scar which runs on the inner aspect of the upper arm. It is difficult to see with the arms by the side however can be visible in other arm positions.
It is commonly combined with liposuction to reduce the girth of the arms as well as other body contouring procedures usually in patients who have had massive weight loss. The arm lift may also be extended to remove other areas of excess skin which run into the armpit such as the outer aspect of the breast or upper back. It is a very safe operation with a minimal complication profile and can be done as a day case in an approved hospital. The scars usually settle very well.
